Lindsey and Kevin were married on a sweltering summer night in Austin. They thoughtfully elected to have the entire wedding and reception take place on the lovely and very cool mezzanine of The Driskill Hotel. What an elegant evening!

A few years ago, after being sparked by my friends over at the Future Craft Collective, I made my daughter’s first lunch box for her to take to school on the first day of first grade. Its been a tradition ever since. This year each of my girls selected the materials they wanted and I got busy. Big Sister chose a plastic bag that her Dad brought home from a trip to Japan earlier this year and Little Sister, who loves animals and goes to a Montessori gardening school, chose the ‘Chicken Bag’, lovingly donated to the cause by her teacher.
I realize that homemade lunch boxes are unusual but, why not? Its an opportunity for a kid to express some creativity and in these days of green consciousness and the funky economy, who needs to spend an extra $20 bucks to bring one more plastic thing into the household? Look around your house. I’ll bet you have million plastic bags stuffed under the sink. Or what about that nearly empty bag of bird seed out in the shed? An old tarp, those pillowcases made of beautiful fine cotton from your grandmother’s house or a fitted sheet with tuckered out elastic. Keep your eyes peeled, I suspect there are lots more materials than you think that can be recrafted for a whole new lifetime of use.

I have decided to get a jump on things this fall. On September 4, I will be in my studio doing portraits and I am offering a back to school special sitting fee. Because you are coming to me, a one hour session is only $150. You will receive 30 images from the shoot on a disk for viewing(72 dpi). A disk of 4 x 6 print ready images is $100. Larger print prices range from $20-$100 depending on size and amount of retouching. Canvas prices on request.
If you would like to schedule a session, please send your request to sarah@sarahborkhamilton.com. If your children have a time of day when they would be happier subjects, please include that in your email. I currently have 1 slot available for this session. I look forward to making beautiful pictures of your kiddos!

It was the last week of summer before going back to school and what did we do? We cleared the clutter, we purged the piles, we tidied the tangle and we melted the crayons!!! You know that old, gnarly box of broken, half peeled, grubby, sticky crayons? We peeled the paper, divided them up into color families and we melted ‘em! And then we poured the wax into muffin liners and voilà! Pretty fresh new easy to hold coloring tools!
Hooray for 104° days that force you to figure out new things to do inside!

Get ready to see a lot more of this little guy. I spent almost 2 hours with him and this dude has stamina and character! This is the first of at least two posts of pictures from our session. In fact you HAVE seen him before here as he was making his way into the world. Enjoy!

Where do I begin? Maybe for once I’ll just let the pictures say it all.
Photographing a birth is stunning. Every. Single. Time.

This is probably my most favorite family portrait I have taken in recent years.
Dad is calling his mother to tell her about her about the baby.
